More Than A Tutor is a team of qualified teachers providing bespoke tuition and alternative education support for children who need more than the conventional education system can offer.

Based in Rochford, Essex, we support children and families across Essex and Southend through personalised, wellbeing-led tuition. We work closely with parents, home educators and Local Authorities to deliver education that meets children where they are.

Who We Support

We support children who may be:

  • Lacking confidence with their learning

  • Neurodivergent or have identified SEND

  • Without appropriate school provision

  • Accessing EOTAS/EOTIS packages

  • Experiencing social, emotional or mental health challenges

  • Being home educated

  • Preparing for SATs, 11+ or requiring targeted academic support

 

Every child we work with is supported as an individual. We take time to understand their needs, interests and starting point before shaping the right approach.

We work with children who have struggled within traditional settings, offering flexible education support that adapts around the child rather than expecting the child to adapt to the system.

Our work often supports families navigating complex situations, including gaps in provision or alternative education pathways. In these moments, reassurance, consistency and understanding matter just as much as academic progress.

Our teachers use a holistic, child-centred approach. This may include movement, hands-on learning and emotional regulation to help children feel safe, supported and ready to engage. Confidence comes first. Learning follows.

A Different Approach
to Tuition

Our approach to tuition is flexible and responsive, shaped around the child in front of us.

We take time to build trust, understand how a child learns best and create sessions that feel safe, engaging and achievable. This allows children to rebuild confidence, develop resilience and make meaningful progress at their own pace.

Where Sessions Take Place:

  • in the child’s home

  • in our learning space in Rochford

  • or in other agreed community settings
     

We currently support our Local Authorities and special needs schools. This enables us to support children who may otherwise be without appropriate educational provision.

Tuition Services & Prices

Parent Fees
1:1 Tuition: £35 per hour
Paired Tuition: £25 per hour
Small Group Tuition: £20 per hour

 

Holiday clubs
£25 per day during each school holiday

 

Local Authority Tuition Packages
Fees are calculated individually depending on the level and type of provision required.

About us

More Than A Tutor began when one qualified teacher became increasingly concerned by the number of local children missing out on education due to “no appropriate provision”.

​

What started as a response to this growing need has developed into a team of teachers who understand that education should adapt to the child, not the other way around.

​

We are proud to support some of the most vulnerable and overlooked learners in our community, offering education that is compassionate, flexible and genuinely responsive.

Misha is quite simply the most amazing tutor. Kind, understanding and empathic. My son has a complex profile and has struggled with any learning at all but has flourished with Misha. She has been patient, encouraging and enthusiastic with him and he absolutely adores her and has shown so much progression since working with her. Her learning style is fun and paced at their level, being totally adaptable where needed. Just cannot recommend her enough, to any child, but especially those with a more complex learning profile or additional needs. She’s an absolute hero and amazing tutor.
